Altman\u2019a (1968)&#8221; | <em>The capacity to forecast enterprise insolvency on the Polish market using the precursory Altman Z-score model (1968).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"75\" src=\"https:\/\/antonowicz.ug.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Altman_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/antonowicz.ug.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Altman_1.jpg 744w, https:\/\/antonowicz.ug.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Altman_1-300x30.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"justify-text wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Abstract<\/em><\/strong><em> Many years have passed since the publication of the first multidimensional model (Z-score) of early bankruptcy warning by E.I. Altman in 1968. New models have emerged in different countries since then. In this research stream, the share of econometric modeling based on the assumptions of discriminant analysis, i.e. MDA &#8211; Multiple Discriminant Analysis &#8211; one of the multidimensional classification methods categorized as empirical-induction methods, plays a particularly important role. The article assesses the capacity of the Altman\u2019s Z-Score to forecast (1 year ahead) insolvency of the enterprises on the Polish market. The study, due to the sample size (i.e. over 2700 bankrupt entities in Poland), constitutes one of the broadest studies carried out so far on the assessment of the predictive capacity of early warning models in Polish economy. The Author, conducting research in this area, puts forward a hypothesis that the variables that were well identified and introduced to discriminatory models in one economy work equally well in other countries. Despite the economic differences in these countries and the phases of the business cycle, the financial-analysis indicators that allow effective forecasting of enterprise bankruptcy are valid for different economies.
